Overview of Exemptions
  • One story detached accessory structures used as tool or storage sheds provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet
  • Fences not over eight feet high
  • Retaining walls which are not over four feet from lowest adjacent grade to the top of the wall, unless supporting a surcharge of impounding Class I, II, or III-A liquids
  • Water tanks supported directly on grade if the capacity does not exceed 5,000 gallons, and ratio of height to diameter or width does not exceed two to one
  • Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops, and similar finish work
  • Prefabricated swimming pools which are less than 24 inches deep, do not exceed 5,000 gallons and are installed entirely above ground
  • Shade cloth structures constructed for nursery or agricultural purposes
  • Window awnings supported by an exterior wall which do not project more than 54 inches from the exterior wall and do not require support
  • Movable cases, counter and partitions not over 5' 9" in height
